I am designing a wood frame structure, hip roof with 12:12 and 18:12 roof pitches. ASCE7-05 Figure 6-11c gives component and cladding external pressure coefficients for gable and hip roofs up to 27 degrees and Figure 6-11d for gable roofs between 27 and 45 degrees. I see nothing for hip roofs greater than 27 degrees. Can anyone offer any help? I have several study guides with example problems but no one addresses hip roofs with steep slopes.

I'd think you'd then use "wall" C&C wind loads for that steep of a roof.

I found an excellent reference book (not cheap) on breaking the Da Vinci code on wind forces:

Design of Buildings and Bridges for Wind

by Emil Simiu and Toshio Miyata

Published by John Wiley. It has charts and graphs you will not find in the ASCE 7-05. The ASCE is overly cryptic and not user friendly at all. You can probably search for it on amazon.com
