Hi All,
I am working to review a structural support for a power piping system. Paragraph 121 of ASME B31.1 states, "Design of standard pipe supporting elements shall be in accordance with rules of MSS SP-58."
The support system consists of an Anvil Clevis Hanger attached to a steel rod, which is attached to an Anvil Concrete Rod Attachment. The clevis hanger complies with MSS SP-58 but the Concrete Rod Attachment does not state compliance with SP-58.
Where is the line drawn where ASME B31.1 applies? I understand that the Clevis Hanger is a pipe supporting element and certainly needs to abide by ASME B31.1, but does the concrete rod attachment require ASME B31.1 or could AISC be acceptable? Do the anchor bolts require ASME B31.1?
Thanks!
Jon
