Hello everybody.
I have a minor confusion with ASME B16.34 code. On chapter 7 {Pressure testing)par.7.1 a shell pressure test is defined, with its acceptability criteria clearly stated. So far so good. But in par.7.2 Valve Closure Test, a test pressure/duration is defined, but no acceptability criteria. Instead there is a note stating that closure tightness requirements vary with intended service application and are not within the scope of ASME B16.34. If that is the case, then why is there a test pressure/duration specified? Does it make any sense? And how can I choose the acceptability criteria when my valves are tested according to ASME B16.34 by the manufacturer? Simply based on experience??
