Table 323.2.2 box B-3 has been revised in the 2020 Edition of B31.3. This appears to be a new requirement for charpy testing after simulated PWHT that would apply to unlisted materials, unless the “comparable” listed material option in box 7 is used. Previously, charpy testing after welding (and PWHT) was required on the PQR for unlisted materials (based on the previous references in Box B-3 to Note 2), but this revision now requires charpy testing on all production heats/lots after (simulated) PWHT for unlisted materials. There is no similar requirement for listed materials with a design minimum temperature at or warmer than the minimum temperature in Table A-1.
Question 1: Is the above understanding about the new charpy testing after (simulated) PWHT on all production heats/lots for unlisted material (unless the “comparable” listed material option in box 7 is used) correct?
Question 2: Are there any listed materials that would be considered to have “comparable” “composition, heat treatment, and product form” to common oilfield 4130 quench and tempered 75K minimum yield strength materials?
