341.4.3 (c) "In-process examination in accordance with para. 344.7, supplemented by appropriate nondestructive examination, may be substituted for the examination required in (b) above on a weld-for-weld basis if specified in the engineering design or specifically authorized by the Inspector"

"May be substituted"
So, I can change item b (other examinations) to In-process Examination supplemented by NDT?
If authorized (...)

Weld-for-weld basis, what it means?

My English is not so good, sorry!

Thanks!

My take is that "weld for weld" means you cannot write your procedure to use 341.4.3.c on all welds -- you have to make a decision based on the particular weld. I further read it to mean that the design engineer or the authorized inspector needs to agree with changing to In Process examination with appropriate NDE for a particular weld.
