I'm currently in the fabrication process of building a machine for a customer that, per their specification must comply with ASME B31.3-2018 Chapter V. All of the plumbing components in this machine are stainless tubing and buttweld tube fittings. The tubing I'm using between fittings is all 1" & 2" x .065" wall ASTM A249/A269 304/304L dual graded tubing. The large majority of the tube fittings I have (1" & 2" x .065" wall) were all manufactured from ASTM A249/A269/A270 304/304L tube according to the MTRs I've received. There is however, one batch of fittings (1" x .065" wall) I received that was manufactured from ASTM A249 304/304L tube. This is where I've encountered my problem.
The outside engineering firm that is overseeing this, is telling me that these particular fittings are no good per B31.3 since under table A-1 the type/grade is not listed for ASTM A249, only a UNS number is listed. The UNS number listed is not a 304 alloy.
Is this correct, or are they interpreting this incorrectly?
