I am confused about the 2004 ASME B&PV code standards. Why is the 1996 version of B16.5 used and not the 2003 revision? If anyone could shed some light on this subject I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Patrick

Unfortunately, like most Codes and Standards committees it takes time to review and endorse later editions of supplementary Standards.

However... I'd like to see the AI who would refuse a VIII vessel which used flanges which conform to the 2003 ed. of B16.5.

The ASME Codes do not automatically adopt newly revised referenced standards (ie ASTM, API). Each revised Std have to be reviewed individually to ensure their content is still appropriate. This is a laborious task among Code Committee Members and is done between Code Meetings.

If you are interested in becoming apart of this process, attend any ASME BPV or Piping Code meeting. Vistors are welcomed to attend. A schedule of future meetings are perodicall posted in Mechanical Engineering Magazine.
