Hello guys,

Working on calculations of clamp connection according to ASME BPVC 8 Div. 1, Mandatory Appendix 24.
There is a friction angle μ used in formula of minimum operating bolt load W[sub]m1[/sub].
There is no proper explanation in the standard about this angle.
It is only said "An appropriate friction angle shall be established by the Manufacturer, based on test results for both assembly and operating conditions."

My questions are:
1) What is this friction angle μ (the friction between the clamp and the end hub? is it different from clamp shoulder angle?)
2) What is suggested value of this angle i could use for my calculations without establishing it in tests?
3) What are the procedures for establishing the appropriate friction angle in tests?

Thanks
