Hi.. I have a little confusion regarding 6G qualification of a welder , it is generally said that a 6G is qualified for all positions. My question is:
A welder who is 6G qualified is also qualified for 3G downhill or not, considerring he qualified 6G in uphill progression only ?
Also, If he is qualified than does it mean that 6G qualification is irrespective of uphil or down hill progression ?
Kindly refer with respect to ASME section ix.
Thanking you in anticipation

Take a look at QW-350 and the tables QW-352 thru QW-357. They reference QW-405.3. This is an essential variable for welders...which states a change in welding vertical up or down requires re-qualification. There are exemptions for the cover pass and root pass when removed.

Yes I have read it now..
My job is to weld a vertical plate in downhill condition and I have a 6G qualified welder on pipe in uphill progression , so it means I have to requalify my welder either in 3G downhil or 6G downhill for the required job ?
Am I right in interpreting it ?
