I work at a company that manufactures heat exchangers to ASME code Section 8, Div 1.
A big part of my job is estimating machining hours for major components like tubesheets, etc., and I seek a method to be more accurate in those estimates by having using well-researched machining time factors based on the material.
There seem to be machinability indices out there for non-code material designations like AISI steel grades, however, I don't know how to cross reference those to the ASME code material designations that are used in pressure vessel construction, SA-516-70 plate for example. Does anybody know if such cross reference exists? Below is the example of what I have found for AISI material machinability index.
