ASME Filler Metal Classifications

Where can I find a chart depicting F numbers for Stainless steel GTAW wire. i want to verify the ER308, Er308L, ER316, ER316L, Er309, ER309L and ER304, Er304L, etc... all come from the same F No. grouping....I believe its F-6...Thanks for the help!

Thanks Steve One more question: everything is identified in SFA numbers how do i convert to ER316, ER308L?

Most of those ER numbers are electrode classifications within SFA-5.9

BigDog you need to do a little leg work and a little self education on welding to ASME Code.

SFA 5.9 is in the ASME Code, Section II. I'll let you do the rest and figure out which part.

There is no conversion from ER316 tp ER308, they are two distinctly different filler metals. Not sure what you would mean by that question.

Get a copy of ASME Sect II part C. It has all the SFA-specs. There is no discernable pattern in the #'s, as they "just grew" as new processes were added, and new fillers were developed.

The F #'s come from ASME Sect IX.

The A #'s are 'puddle analysis'of a specific filler, and you cross-reference between IX and the fillers metallurgy --from IIC.

Until you have done all this a time or two, it's tough.
