Hi
I need to calculate the minimum allowable thickness (MAT) of a power boiler and its steam drum.
The original design code was ASME I 1969 (with "S" stamp), meaning the equipment is in full operation now for
more than 40 years.
The MAT calculations will be done for the shells, tubesheets and nozzle necks. There are no original calculations
available for comparison.
My questions are:
1. Is there a difference in formulas and calculations methods between ASME I and ASME VIII Div.I?
2. Can I use software such as Compress or PV Elite for these calculations and select ASME VIII Div.1
as the design code to determine the MAT's?
3. Can I do an FEA to the rules of ASME VIII Div.2 to determine the MAT's?
Thanks in advance.
