ASME in China

Hi,

my company built a local branch in China. Chinese workers and engineers but they shall use our know-how and the CEO is located in Europe, steering from abroad. Everybody tells us, that we have to use GB150 as the vessels are manufactured in China.
I read in a document of CSEI, that we can write an application to the SELO why our company can't use GB150. So there is a chance, but yesterday someone told me, that is not a good idea. We are doing the welding, so the SELO or the CSEI will come for an audit every four years and this is really expensive as they expect us to pay for shopping binges of their wifes and are interested in having a good and expensive time than in checking our equipment.
Please if there are any chinese who read this don't feel offended. I just have to check rumors, it does not mean I believe it.
Would it be better to learn GB code? is it easy, as we have simple pressure vessels, only with water and 0,4 MPa ?

I'm not Chinese, but I can tell you the pressure vessels installed in China have to correspond to the chinese Code, even if fabricated overseas per ASME code. However, they don't care for the pressure vessels you fabricate in China and export them somewhere else. Also, if you manufacture in China for the Chinese market, you better learn the GB150. It's not that easy, but it can be done, just remember the Chinese safety is not any less important than the ASME code requirements, even if only water and 4 bar pressure.

Yes, it is. There are not fundamental differences, perhaps mostly semantics. The topic has been discussed on this forum and on the Google. One member of this forum said last year the following (on an ASME forum):
'GB-150 is the combination of Div 1 and Div 2, but slightly different that won't cause problem. It seems Chinese people are quite smart to pick and choose the best parts from both codes. And I do like GB-150 more than ASME because it is simple and clear, just like a text book, no wording subject to interpretation. We people in the pressure vessel world always joke that ASME code is written for lawyers, very vague and tedious, and people always have different interpretation and get confusion. You won't find that in GB-150.'

Hi, gr2vessels,

when you are that familiar to GB150, perhaps you can explain to me what is JB4732? It must be a chinese code like GB150, but I am not sure at all. Have you heard about this?
