Hi could please advice …

If 60deg bevel and 1.6mm root length weld qualification by using asme ix can be used for 60deg bevel and 2mm root length weld.

is this root length is a essential variable as per asme ix.

My understanding of the standard is the bevel angle cannot be less than 10deg is the essential criteria.

Root spacing is not an essential welding variable for the common welding processes listed in Section IX. However, root spacing must be addressed in your WPS as part of the production weld joint design. If you need to change to a larger root spacing, this would be an editorial revision to the original WPS.

Bevel angle is not specified in the code and is left up to the fabricator to decide. Again, it must be addressed in some fashion on the WPS.

Thanks for the info.

So if i did the 1.6mm root length for qualification WPQ, can be used for a 2mm root length ?
