Hi everyone,

What kind of material certification do I have to request to my supplier when we want to purchase ASME material? Just ASTM? Both?

I mean, we can use A479 316 (bar) to produce some parts not subjected to pressure, but for the valve's nozzle it has to be SA479 316. They are both the same materials and obviously we would want to use the same bar, so my question is to know if it is mandatory to request a double certification because it has to appear the ASME SA479 316 or only purchasing A479 316 would be enough because they are both equivalents.

Thanks in advance.

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code book sections (I,III, IV, VIII, X and XII) provide material requirements for pressure retaining (SA) and non-pressure retaining (either SA or A) material for use in fabrication.

jolivers, require that the MTR states "SA-xxx". Order it as such. Subject material may be dual certified "A-xxx", "SA-xxx", and other specs as well, but must state "SA-xxx".

Regards,

Mike
