Dear Eng-Tips Members,

Question: The Vendor is fabricating a low Pressure Pressure Vessel ( Design Pre: 45psig temp: 650 def F) and using Compress program to design as per ASME SEC VIII Div 1 Code.
He has sent me 250 pages of calcs. How should I review his calcs. What are the important things i need to check. As I cannot go thru all the 250 pages and read the the code in finite details.

Thanks in advance and i admire the experts for spending their valuable time to answer key questions.

This is a question that you should be asking your boss - not a forum.

BTW - if I were your boss, and you were a junior engineer that was tasked with checking the calculations, I would indeed have you go through the minutia of the Code and all 250 pages of the calculation. Then, I would randomly choose a page, and have you explain to me the calculation (where it comes from, how it is relevant, and what is the theoretical background for said calculation), the input, and the output.

After you would have done this a few times, then I would simply ask for an input check, and a "sanity" check that the results are reasonable, plus a few thorough spot checks. BUT, you'd have to earn your way to this point.

Man, TGS4, remind me to not work for you! But, its probably the same approach I'd take. I'll have to remember that if we ever get a chance to hire some more bodies.

sameera- your post doesn't belong in a piping related forum. Section VIII issues are better handled in forum794 or in this case perhaps forum1259 though your question is not specifically Compress related and thus the generic vessel forum would be better.

First you need to validate the inputs used to program Compress. If there are any errors or misassumptions there, the rest of it is waste paper.
