ASME SA_53 B vs. ASTM A53 B

Hi,
Any one can guide me that, can we use ASTM A-53 B material instead of ASME SA-53 B material in hot water boiler ASME-IV? where all our registered dwgs. are according to SA-53 B!
If yes, do we have to do any documentation?
Pls. guide me ASAP.

Yes. Review ASME B&PV Code, Section II, Introduction, "Acceptable ASTM Editions". There is reference to using ASTM A 53 for SA 53.

Be careful.

The year of the ASTM Std. must be the same as listed in ASME SecII to be SA.

I would review the MTRs against the current SA spec. before I used the material. If the customer gave me a written OK..no problem.

ASTM uses A 53-B, ASME uses SA-53-B. There two standards are usually identical if they are issued the same year. They are the same material, however you should use SA materials for constructing ASME PVs or Boilers

The Code allows the use of a material spec; if the materials are the same anyone can use in Code Construction if the required procedure/cert by the mfr is followed.

other than that it is an agreement within the customer and the fabricator.
I have customers who will not allow the use of even SA53 materials.
