ASME Sec 9, QW 451.1 and 451.2

Dear Experts,
In ASME Sec IX QW 451.1 is for the Transverse bend test and 451.2 longitudinal bend test. How can we decide when I have a specimen of thickness "t" which bend test is to be performed?
