I have a HFO scenario where P1 base metal may need to have weld buildup with either E7018, ER70S-6 (GTAW), or ER70S-6 (GMAW). After the buildup it would have a butter layer with either ER309 (GTAW) or ER309-16. Then to finish it would have either ECoCr-E or ERCoCr-E (GTAW) for the hard facing. Would the following avenue of qualification be the most direct (least extensive), and would it be legitimate?
- 1-1/2" thick P1 CJP groove weld PQR with .300" of E7018, .300" of ER70S-6 (GTAW), .300" of ER70S-6 (GMAW), .300" of ER309 (GTAW), and .300" of E309-16. This qualifies weld buildup/buttering of up to .600" of each filler metal on unlimited P1 base metal thickness. I am thinking this would cover my CS buildup followed by SS buttering in one shot.
- 1" thick HFO PQR on P8 base metal with ECoCr-E (in accordance with QW-216.5). Qualifies my HFO procedure on base metal from 1" thick to unlimited.
- 1" thick HFO PQR on P8 base metal with ERCoCr-E (GTAW) (in accordance with QW-216.5). Qualifies my HFO procedure on base metal from 1" thick to unlimited.
Does this make sense? If not how would you qualify this scenario with the least PQR's required?
