Hello all

I have a question regarding UW-16(d)(1) welding requirement.

According to this requirement the dimension of t1 or t2 "for each weld" shall be not less than the smaller of 1/4in or 0.7 x tmin.

Our nozzle is welded acc. to Fig UW-16.1 (i) and we followed the note under it but the wording "for each weld" is missing there.

In our case 0.7 x tmin is smaller than 1/4in and equals to 2,1mm. We applied it to only one fillet dimension and second one was established to meet other requirement of t1+t2 not less than 1.25tmin which equals to 3,75mm. Does the wording "for each weld" which is missing in the note under the figure mean that both fillet welds shall have the same minimum dimension of 0.7xtmin?

Thank you

Lukasz

Each weld shall be minimum 0.7tmin as stated in UG-16(d)(1). It's true "for each weld" is missing from the notes in figure. The code intends to establish minimum fillet weld size here becuase code requires fillet on each side, and you can not put a large weld on one side and almost nothing on the other side.

The figure says "t1 or t2 not less than..."

The miniumum size applies to each weld.

Mike

Hello

I guess our interpretation was wrong. We based it on the requirements under figure where wording "for each weld" is missing.

Thank you all for your help.

Lukasz
