ASME Section VIII Div 1 Appendix 7 LP Examinations

Good afternoon all,

I'm trying to wrap my head around Appendix 7 & 8. In Appendix 7, 7-2(b) it states that LP examinations shall be per Appendix 8 except that acceptance standards shall be as given in 7-3(b)(3) of this Appendix. What does that mean exactly? Appendix 8 has evaluation and acceptance criteria. Will some customers opt for Appendix 7 and some for Appendix 8? Sorry if it sounds dumb, I'm just new to this type of inspection criteria and no one at my facility can give me a concrete answer. Thanks.

It means just what it says. The acceptance standards in Appendix 8, 8-4 do not apply to steel castings. All the rest of Appendix 8 is applicable.
