How does ASME Section VIII Division 2 handle proof testing of components of pressure vessels? I can't find any reference to it in this division. Section VIII Div 1 has a section on this (UG-101).

The vessel I'm designing was examined under Appendix 4 of Section VIII Div 2 except for several small electrical connectors that are to be welded in place. Do you think it would be satisfactory to us Div 1 for this part of the analysis? No one likes mixing codes, so I doubt this is alright.

Thanks

The closest that you are going to get to in Div 2 is Appendix 6.

My question for you would be why would you not evaluate your "small electrical connectors" to Appendix 4 as well? If you're going to go through the bother of proof test, then Appendix 6 is the best that you can do.

Thanks for getting back to me.

The connectors are composed of several layers of varying materials (stainless, some alloy and ceramic insulator). The exact dimensions and compositions are company secrets. Also, the client would like to see how they perform compared to the manufacturers spec.

I think I found something in 4-136.4 "Experimental Analysis". It refers to 6-153 on collapse load. A load vs. displacement curve could probably be created quite easily.

Thanks again.
