ccc123,

The stamp you mentioned is available worldwide, with many reputed pressure vessel fabricators who earned the distinction of being a ASME approved / recognised fabricator. The stamp cannot be purchased and is only a symbol of the quality status of the fabricator able to manufacture guaranteed vessels in accordance with the Pressure Vessels code (ASME VIII-1,2).

PS. Is also illegal to use the U-stamp without ASME authorization.

Cheers

If the tank is already built, there isn't any provision to retroactively make it into an ASME tank.

If you're in a jurisdiction that doesn't require ASME or other PV stamps, you could still design per ASME. But it would be improper and misleading to attempt to stamp such a vessel.

You can do a search for certificate holders here:

Dear gr2vessels & JStephen :

I think both of you misunderstanded my question or maybe it wasn't clear and directed to the main point, the tank is already built and we are going to do the hydraostatic test after three days, from the first day of fabrication the manufacturer confirmed that fabrication will be according to ASME Sec. VIII, Div.1. after the complete of hydrostatic test and sending the tank for installation, the manufacture has to submit a certificate of compliance with ASME standard that shall include all information about tank, like grade of steel, thickness, pressure rate, coating, etc.... I looked through the internet and I found form U-3, SO what I need to know if you have any other form for certificate that comply to ASME or if we can use U-3 form ?
Thanks alot for your help

ccc123,

They are not the only ones to misunderstand your question. I did not read your original post the way you meant it. I also went down the same understanding as the others.

Have you read FAQ731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

Is the manufacturer not supplying a U-1? It will have all the info you need.

Regards,

Mike

If the vessel has an ASME ser No. you can ask the Mfr for a DATA REPORT with U, UM stamp certifivcation.- If the vessel has a Ntl Bd #, you can as the Mfr for the data report or get one from the Natl. Bd.genb
