HI,
I HAVE TO BUILD ONE WATER BOTTLE,
THE FUNCTION OF THIS BOTTLE IS TO CONTROL OF HIGH STEAM BOILER (LIKE.FLOAT TYPE LWCO).
THE SIZE OF THIS BOTTLE IS 6"STD. BLK ERW PIPE-SA-53B AND 31" HEIGHT.
I HAVE TO WELD 300#-WNRF 6" FLGS. AT BOTH ENDS.
ON THIS BOTTLE I'LL HAVE TO MOUNT TRICOCK, GAUGE GLASS ETC.
COULD U PLS. TELL ME UNDER WHICH CODE I'LL HAVE TO BUILT THIS?
"U" OR "UM"
I'LL HAVE TO BUILT THIS IN UNITED STATES, SHALL I REQUIRE
DWGS. AND CALCS, STAMPED BY PE?
WE ARE S, H, AND U STAMP HOLDER, SO CAN WE BUILD THIS?
I AM EXPECTING YOUR ADVICE.
THANKS

mihir5577,
if it's for a high pressure steam boiler, Section I of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code would be your reference.
Since your facility is currently an S stamp holder, I assume you have a reason for fabricating the control you mention as opposed to buying one, which, imho, would probably be cheaper and less aggravating.

can you say what hi-pressure are talking about? just curious.
also, you can get prefab units from a controls mfr,
probes or floats.
if you log to generalboiler web and send email.

Hi lostsailor,
Thanks for reply.
But i i have one more question that,
i'll have to mount this bottle on top drum of boiler.
than which code, i'll have to apply to build this...
I mean section viii - "U" or "UM"? or "s" stamp?
Will i have to stamp on it?
Which calculation i'll have to do for registration?
When i can use "UM" stamp?
Can i use "UM" for this bottle?
Pls. Advice me....
Thanks
Mihir

milhir5577,
This device will have to be constructed in accordance with Section I of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Paragrpah 9.5 limits the thickness of ERW pipe to 1/2". All design and material requirements will have to be looked at.
Pay particular attention to Figure PG-58.3.1 and compare to your desired configuration to determine whether Section I or B31.1 will apply, from your description it looks like B31.1.

As an "S" stamp holder, your organization should be aware of all code requirements. Work up a design and run it by your AI and/or have the contracted fabricator's design/engineering people and AI look at it.

RLS

I saw your posting in PV oct 2004, same questions,
when are you going to finish the botlle?
I see you wish to build to UM, and I like to know why.
do you hold a UM stamp?
It is nice to build to UM and I had it for a while until I realized that it costed as much as the same U stamped jobs, so I droped it.
Controls on power boilers are build to Sec I and are not stamped to UM. you have to find your way. and it won't be free or easy.
