I have many questions on head forming.
Cold Formed Heads:
1a. Are cold formed heads that exceed fiber elongation requirement per UCS-79 heat treated per UCS-56 requirements for temp & time?
1b. Is this HT only a stress relief?
1c. In a cold forming process, doesn't the material properties change?
1d. Why doesn't the material require re-testing after forming?
Hot Formed Heads:
2. I am confused about the requirements for hot formed heads.
2a. After forming, does manufacturer always normalize the heads to since the material properties change during the hot forming process?
2b. Is it typical for a sample of the plate to be normalized and tested before forming so the properties are known after the formed head is normalized?
2c. Can this test be eliminated if the plate material is ordered in the normalized condition?
2d. What is the typical forming temperature that differentiates between a hot and cold formed head?
Thanks
