ASME vs. EN303-5 European boiler standard and min. boiler pressure

Hello everyone,

I am looking at wood gasification boilers and am trying to
figure out the major differences between the ASME and EN303-5 European boiler standard.

Also, is there a pressure at which the ASME boiler code stamp is not required on residential solid fuel boilers.I was told that if the the boiler is below a certain pressure that it does not need to be ASME certified.

I can't speak to the EN Standard or provide a comparison to ASME Section I or IV for you.

If your boiler is a steam boiler and has a MAWP of greater than 15 psi, it requires the "S" Stamp from ASME. If the design pressure is 15 psi or below, it would require the "H" stamp for heating boilers. If it is a Hot water boiler with a MAWP above 160 psi, it requires an "S" Stamp. At 160 psi and below an H stamp is needed.

Having said all of that, each state in the USA and some cities have requirements as well. An ASME stamp and National Board registration get you into more places than not.
