Looking for total cost per sq ft , not only the material.

Get on the State DOT website and look up recently award contracts and their bid unit prices. Pay attention to the overall dollar value of the contract and amount of asphalt. Open miles of interstate paving will cost less per ton than in town paving.

Thanks eea, appreciate your words, I did checked that but they only show the overall project cost ( without breakdown)

Get a copy of RS Means. It provides very detailed information to estimate the cost of virtually anything construction related. I think its still published once a year, so obviously it is not sensitive to cost fluctuations on less than an annual basis.

I'm really just trying to help here... but if you're designing something, you know the surface area and the paving section. Calculating the takeoff in yards is trivial.

Like everything else in construction, prices for asphalt are fluctuating wildly. What someone paid 2 years ago in Virginia is, for all intents and purposes, useless to anyone estimating a project in Virginia right now.

The only way you're going to get the information you want, with any reasonable level of accuracy, is to pick up the phone and call someone who is going to sell you the asphalt or install the asphalt.
