Everyone, I'm looking for a book that teaches the who, what, when and how of asphalt distress. For example, what causes bleeding? What causes alligator cracking? The cracking in this particular pavement section is considered bottom-up cracking because...sort of thing. Anyone have any ideas? I downloaded the Fed's Distress Identification Manual and attended a class put on by ASCE called "Techniques of Pavement Rehab", but I;d like know more information. Any help would be appreciated.

Interestingly, only recently (say, last 15 years or so) has a "new" type of pavement distress been identified in practice - top down cracking. Many of the pavement distress manuals, including the ASTM "spec" on airfield pavement distress, do not address this type of cracking. Do a google on "top down cracking" for references. Florida, TTRL of UK have done studies on this.
