Does assembly arrangements allow the use of different components or is strictly only for different positions of one component? Is there another way I can show component subsitution in an assembly without creating a bunch of different assy files or revisions?

Thanks,
Randy

You can use Assembly Arrangements for BOTH having alternative positions as well as alternative content of a sub-assembly.

After creating your desired Arrangements using...

Assemblies -> Arrangements...

...go to...

Assemblies -> Components -> Edit Suppression State...

...and select the components that you wish to remove from one or more of the Arrangements. After selecting the Components, hit OK and then you can set the 'State' and which Arrangement(s) this 'State' will apply to.

Randy just as an FYI..
When you do start editing the suppression state in arrangements I find it helpful to have the "Include Suppressed Components" turned on in the assembly navigator. (right click any where on the assembly nav) It will turn the icon of the suppressed component to a blue color. If its turned off then you will be unable to see the components once suppressed and can make editing the suppression levels difficult if you edit the suppression levels from the assembly nav.
It is also important to keep in mind that when using arrangement's in assemblies, that the assembly arrangement's remembers what arrangements the components are in... So if you swap out the arrangement of a component, the assembly arrangement is then affected.
