Hi All,

I'm looking to have a simple way to clone a "standard" conveyor support in to 35 different supports. The main difference between the supports is the height of the support.

I want to clone the assembly, assembly_dwg1, rectangular tube, rectangular tube_dwg1

I'm trying to do this with de clone functie but I don't have any clear overview with what i'm doing...there is no clear list ??

In the pic attacht an example of the support.

Are you mean to rename a few drawings only.

Without change the assembly model. ?

Can you explain more on this ?
you do not want a part family ?
and a table -drawing ?

The Clone function is pretty straightforward once one have used it a couple of times.
I never touch other tabs than the Main tab and the naming tab.

1) Main tab : load the assembly.
2) Naming tab, select numbering method and output directory.
3) main tab: tick dry run and then execute.
then
Change "root parts only" to "full", then click "Report to information window"
4) If this , as seen in the information window, is ok, press execute.
If not, use the "Exceptions" buttons on either the main tab and / or on the naming tab.
when done, do a new dry run, if happy then execute without the dry run option.

Tomas

The support has two parts witch will change with every support, these are the green ones in the previous attachment.

I have to make like 60 supports each with a differend hight.

In the assembly i've made a sketch this sketch provides the length of the green square tube via a wave link.

When I need a new support, I want to copy the assembly and the square tube and the assembly draft. I want to give them the name without the naming rule. All support assemblies are situated in the same directory.

When using the clone funtion (out of the years....1850....??) I think it's a bit of a tricky way to do it with the user name option......I'd like to have a list overview of the new names before hitting "OK"

even Solid Edge and Inventor have a better graphic user interface...... For half the price :)

I would say you need a Part-family for this.
Cloning will not give you the option to change the length of the tube (or make any changes whatsoever during cloning).

Means you will have to go into each assembly after cloning and make the changes manually.
Part-family will give you more options where you can state the correct length for each copy of your tube and also gives you more control on the naming as you have a spreadsheet as an interface for this.

Hi Lars,

Yes you can. Have a look at some tutorials. There are for sure some examples there

Would using the "Log File" help for what you are doing?
Specify the output and do a dry, open the txt file and make modifications as needed.
Change "NAMING_RULE" to "USER_NAME", 4th(?) line down from the top.
Then run the clone and use the "Load and Apply Existing Log File".
I always point the clone to an empty file till I know it works, you can keep modifying the txt file till you get the desired results. There are limitations though.

when I have to make something like 40 supports my oppinion is, when I use the User name configuraion, I have to be verry carefull for not making a typo....

:)
The user interface is from the early 90-ties.
Inventor wasn't born yet and SE was still learning to crawl. :)

OR,
You make it into a "reusable" component,
which has a pretty modern cloning option.
I know i have written a few replies to how to, somewhere here on Eng-tips...

The good thing about the reusable component is that you can define a new variant on the fly,
with a part family you need to open the family template and create the new member in the excel Spreadsheet.

Tomas

Thnx..i'll look into this one....the reusable component.....is this available with all NX licences?
Can the reusable component stuff also provide a draft...?

Thnx...
