I am using NX6 and I am running into an issue with the assembly cut tool remaining after export. I’ve added a photo for clarity (which I now realize I spelled wrong in the screen shot).

Background:
I am making a pilot and bolt circle pattern using an assembly cut for the bolt holes. The assembly cut works great but when you export it, the tool exports as well. You cannot suppress it or even use the History Free Modeling before exporting.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Also if you need useless entertainment, open up Microsoft Word and type “Cut the bolt holes.” and hit enter. It should give you a grammar error under bolt hole. Correct the grammar using the right click. Then check the spelling and grammar again. It should now give you a spelling error. Correct it again using right click and then you have a grammar error. (I’ve been stuck in this human feedback loop for hours). ;)

I'm not surprised since the 'Target' and 'Tool' bodies involved in the 'Cut' are 'promoted' into the Assembly and then Booleaned, and then at least the original 'Tool' body is hidden (you do have control over this, but that won't really help) since it's still technically linked to the newly created 'Assembly Cut' feature created at the Assembly level and therefore can not be deleted or removed completely. So if you export the assembly and you select all of the components, the hidden tool body will probably be picked-up as well since it's actually there.

I just tried a little test and I suspect that there may be nothing that you can do about this except to remove/delete the extra bodies after the exported part is opened in the other application.

Perhaps if the Tool body were placed on a different Layer which was then set to be 'Invisible', perhaps the Export routine would be more likely to either skip it or at least maintain the display status (invisible) of the body once the file has been imported into the target application. Of course it could also be that the target application is not honoring the display status of the 'hidden' bodies which were tagged as such during the export task. Perhaps you could do a 'round-trip' (NX -> Export -> Import -> NX) and see if the results are any different.

As for your 'entertainment' suggestion, it doesn't seem to work in Office Word 2007 :-(

Thanks for the response!

Actually I found an easy way around it. In the Export menu, under the "Data to Export" tab instead of selecting "Entire Part" (default) use the drop down menu as select "Selected Objects",

The Word thing doesn't work for 2003 either.
