In the Part Families dialog you can select components to add to the spreadsheet column. How do I use this in creating Part Family assemblies.

Basically this allows you to include or exclude a component in a particular family member.

What you need to do is create your assembly, adding ALL of the components which would be needed to cover ALL possible configurations for all of the Family Members and then using the spreadsheet columns, you indicate which components to exclude. You only need to include the Components which will change from one family member to the other. If a particular Component never changes, you do not need to include it in the Part Family spreadsheet.

If you wish a particular Component to be included in that family member you enter it's name (without the .prt extension) in that component's column for that family member's row. If you do not wish that Component to be included, you leave the 'cell' blank.

If you wish to be a bit more creative and you need to replace one component with another in a certain family member, as long as the components are interchanageable (the faces/edges which are referenced by your Assembly Constraints have been assigned the same exact 'names' in both components) you can just replace the name of one Component with the name of the replacement Component in that Component's column.

Anyway, experiment a little and I think you'll get the idea.
