I'm working on an assembly where we are using several rod assy's. I'd like to use these rod assy's in the door assy, but the problem is that when I put them in, I can't use mating conditions to locate them. Is there a way to create my rod end (M81935/4-04k) so that I can have the bearings in the rod ends swivel as needed in my assemblies without the hassle of creating multiple reference sets?

HELP!

If you're in NX 4 or earlier using Mating Conditions, this is what you do:

First you have to model the Rod End as an assembly with the spherical ball as a component mated so that it can rotate around it's degrees of freedom.

Now while in the assembly that contains the Rod-End assy, go to Reposition and select the Spherical component and select the Option tab. You should get a list showing both the rod-end assembly and the current (higher) assembly. Select the Top assembly and then select what looks like an UP-Arrow icon near the bottom of the dialog. This will tell the system to allow that level of assembly to control the position of the component, even though it's mated at the lower level assembly.

Now go back to mating conditions and mate you part to the Rod-End as you desire.

In NX 5 using the new Assembly Constraints, it's a lot easier. After adding the Rod-End assy to you main assembly, you just go the Assembly Navigator, select the ball component, press MB3 and select the 'Overrise Position' option (it still uses the up-arrow symbol like in NX 4). Now you can go and mate other parts to the rod-end however you like.
