Hi,

is it possible, when working in assembly to use faces from the components as a reference to create datums, axis etc?
I cant select them and I think, it would be quite useful.
I am using NX4

Thanks

I believe you can if you WAVE link the bodies from the components.

Yes, that I know, but that was exactly what I wanted to avoid if I could...

I agree. NX seems to be very limited in that respect. SolidWorks lets you reference any geometry or component in the assembly, whereas in NX5 you have to wave link geometry into the part, creating extra steps

In NX-5 you can link datum planes. It means you'll have to create the plane relative to the face of the other file, which isn't much use if you don't own write access to both files.

Avoid doing these things as an easy way out if you can, maintaining wave geometry links is taken far too lightly by many users and regularly creates hassles downstream. I can attest that some of the most difficult modeling glitches that I have needed to fix came as a result of dodgy wave links.

Best Regards

Hudson

This is all about to change.
