Hello
Please can someone direct me to where in AS3788 dish ends are assessed for thinning.
I can not find any reference to the assessment of dished end, therefore, Does t = PD/2f also apply to dish ends? I'm assuming it does as hoop stress would be acting in a horizontal plain (with vertical forces)through the vessel out to the dish ends.
I'm am only using this calculation to determine actual minimum allowable thickness for the dished end with isolated pitting.
If this minimum allowable thickness is calculated for the shell, would this allowable thickness also apply to the dish end for pitting assessment.

Thanks
M

Not familiar with that standard- but, for example, in ASME/ NBIC-
Cylinders and dished heads use different design equations and possibly different joint efficiencies, so they are treated differently;
Vessels and boilers may be (legally) regulated as to who can evaluate and repair;
And evaluation of a pit may be treated differently than overall thickness of a part.

Very true.. also with Australian construction standard AS1210, dish and shell treated differently with design.
Might have dig through API 579 for FFS.
Hopefully someone can shed some light onto thinning assessment of dish ends.
Cheers
