Hey, i've come up with another question

I am trying to figure out how to get a product definition (ie material spec) to show up under a "material" colum i created in the assembly navigator.

Like wise id like to get a finish note to show up under another colum i created.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance

You need to define a part attribute Material with the value of <whatever_material? to the part file.
Then in the ANT, when you use the user defined attribute column of Material, the value will show up.

Thanks for the reply Ben,

When you say <whatever_material?, do you mean (for example) "<6061 Aluminum?" or just "6061 Aluminum"?,
or "<whatever_material?" ?

I tried with the "<whatever_material?" and thats exactly what shows up in the column, not the PD material

If typing in the part attribute for material and finish manually is the only option, then the product definition utility is basically useless for what im doing right?

its a no go, thx for the help though

looks like im gonna scrap the idea on NX, and stick to catia where it isnt impossible to do something so simple

I haven't used attributes in the ANT, but have in the BOM. To have the material attribute appear in the BOM, I create an attribute called "material" in the component part. In the assy BOM, I have a column titled <W&@material>.
Basically, I would think that you need to know how the attribute is coded and if it agrees with what the ANT is looking for.

I believe John Baker said that the new material information is in NX4, but not available as attributes, yet. This was in the internal bbsnotes CAD conference.
Since I am there as a carryover by way of TCEnt, I don't have access to UG.

I don't use the 'product definition' tool, but I do have a column in the ANT that shows assigned attributes. I assign an attribute to the part eg. "MATERIAL", then you have to set up the ANT so it shows up. Right click in the ANT, go to columns -> configure, in the column tab there is an 'attribute' text box; type in "MATERIAL" and your assigned attribute will show up (make sure the column you add is checked so it will be visible).

This is on NX2, btw.
