in most cases i create a first part then insert it to assy and starting to create more parts in assy workbench by inserting a new part.
but as i noticed newly created parts doesn't have relations with first part.
here's an example.
1. creating first part (simple pad)
2. insert first part in assy.
3. add new part. going to sketch and project curves from first pad.
3.1 got a new body.
assy looks ok.
but now when i change dimensions of first part pad nothing happens with second part. seems like there's no relations between two parts.
in another cad system it works fine. everything is related to each other and changing dimensions in one part affects all other parts. everything is updated automatically.
am i doing something wrong in catia?

Hi,
You can do it by turning on "keep link with selected object under External references" in the Assembly design under Tools....options...mechanical design...Assembly design.Hope it helps.

thanks..but is's located under part infrastructure.

If your datum feature icon (red lightening bolt) is on...turn it off.

In part 1, select the body (not the pad) and select Tools, Publications, ok the forms. A feature under the Publications node should appear.
Copy the newly created publication from part 1
Activate part 2, select the part with the right mouse button
A menu pops up, pick paste special > as result with link

A copy of part 1 is now in part 2. The shape inside of the body from part 1 should have a blue "P" on it to show it is "linked". Now when you change part 1, Part 2 should go out of date.

keep link with selected object option works fine...i was not looking for any copies..
