I am interested in comparing material such as ASTM A-479 316 bar stock to material made to European standards.

Can anyone explain how this material specification relates to EN / WN / DIN specificaitons?

I think EN is similar to A-479, and WN and DIN are similar to 316, but I am not sure.

Thanks.

The equivalent European standard for stainless steel bar for pressure purposes is EN 10272, which means the German version is DIN EN 10272, the British version is BS EN 10272, etc. Type 316 contains ~ 2.5% Mo, which is in between two standard European grades, X5CrNiMo17-12-2 (1.4401) and X3CrNiMo17-13-3. You can get more details from European bar producers like Sandvik, Outokumou, Valbruna, etc. by googling "DIN EN 10272 stainless 316".
