Can anyone tell me if ASTM A1011 is a Mil Ground Combat Vehicle welding code steel 12479550 Table M1 Carbon steel? I have a weld procedure that allows the use of any materials within the Table M1 Carbon Steel. ASTM A1011 is not specifically listed, but seems like it should be. I am wondering if ASTM A1011 is listed under one of the other specs?

I looked up the spec you referenced, and I located table M1. The table does reference A569 grades 30/50. Spec A1011 was created about year 2000 and replaced several specs including A569.

A1011 is a hot strip spec that is good up to about .230 inches thickness. It appears that the Mill Ground Combat spec that I found on the internet was not current with the latest spec revisions. The issue of out dated specs being referenced is a common problem that has occurred for years and will continue forever.

If your base metal thickness is greater than .230 inches, ASTM A1018 the heavy thickness spec should be used. A1018 is also a newer spec that was approved around year 2001. A1018 like A1011 replaced at lot of prior existing specifications.

Another person on the form may have a list all of the specs that ASTM 1011 and A1018 replaced. Those replaced specs could then be compared against Table M1; but will the final customer, end users, or inspection personnel accept the current material specs that are in conflict with the Mill Ground Combat specification?
