Hi,

In ASTM A 182 paragraph 5 it is stipulated that after hot working, forging shall be cooled to a Temperature below 538°C prior heat treating according to table 1 .

My question is , what is the reason of this temperature, and how this temperature has been fixed??

Thank you for your answers.

Regards.

This temperature was selected by the committee responsible for this specification as a reasonable temperature to ensure material is not simply quenched or cooled from the hot working temperature. So, it is required after hot working to cool to an intermediate temperature, and then heat to the proper austenitization temperature for heat treatment.
