ASTM A274 - WPB - Tapping in a standard forged fitting

Can we take a tapping from a standard forged fitting i.e. suppose we want to take a 2" tapping (extended Piping) from the center of an standard 6" elbow (ASTM A274 - Grade WPB) is it ok as per the API / ASME standards or do we need to provide a reducing TEE ?? I there a note refering to the above point anywhere in any kind of standard ?

No you can't. You would need to check the opening reinforcement, and, if you wanted to use the rated pressure for the elbow, I guess it wouldn't work.
What about using a threadolet? However even there you wouldn't have anymore a standard component, so you would need to check your design in order to satisfy code requirements.

PREX is correct..... You simply cannot connect piping branch lines in any particular component that you can get a thread into.

The whole reason that forged components like weldolets, sockolets, threadolets etc exist is to address the need for pressure reinforcement and to provide an acceptable weld profile.

However, you may also want to review the information in a book like the "Piping Handbook" by Nayaar

You seem to have no background in piping and I believe that you do not understand the code-mandated concept of "pressure reinforcement" in piping and pressure vessels
