Can someone supply a link for composition and properties of this material? From memory, I think this ASTM spec is for a low Carbon steel plate with excellent ductility that has similar properties of A36.

I tried FAQ's with no success but maybe I was too impatient and was not thorough enough.

According to an older Lincoln publication I have, A 284 is C-Si plate, and was discontinued in 1994.

According to Global IHS

ASTM A 284/A 284M - Complete Document
Revision: 90 Chg: Date: 00/00/90
LOW AND INTERMEDIATE TENSILE STRENGTH CARBON-SILICON STEEL PLATES FOR MACHINE PARTS AND GENERAL CONSTRUCTION

was superseded by

ASTM A 283/A 283M - Complete Document
Revision: 03 Chg: Date: 04/10/03
SPECIFICATION FOR LOW AND INTERMEDIATE TENSILE STRENGTH CARBON STEEL PLATES

Comments: SAME AS ANSI G24.2

Hoping this helps

Goahead,
You said, "Hoping this helps."

More than you could guess. So my memory did not completely fail me. And A 283 was the other one I was trying to remember. This is the plate that the obnoxious purchasing agent was going to hang around my neck -- see thread330-117051.

I followed the global link that you provided to see if I could duplicate your path and find the same info but failed in my persuit. Could you be so kind as to tell me how you accessed this info after arriving at the following site?

Hi Metman,
you just print the name of the document in the search window labeled DOCUMENT NUMBER, at top left, in this case
ASTM A284
and click on the SEARCH button.
Best regards,

Thank you. Duh-uh. Too much dazzle and info to digest on some of these sites for this old coger's eyes and then I forget to look for the obvious. Now what was the question?
