What is the difference between these two metals? Are they equivalent?

No, they are not equivalent steels. You need to review the ASTM specifications for proper comparison.

They are related only that both are carbon steels. A36 is wrought plate, structural steel etc., and A352 is a casting, so they are not equivalent product forms.
