Can anyone tell me the difference between these to material? I've used matweb and they both seem very similar.

We used A36 for our prototypes but since then the supply house only carries C1018.

A long as A36 isn't called out by some code or specification you will never know the difference.

On of the advantages of using C1018 is that a there a lot more precision shapes.

Agree with unclesyd. I would only add that the reason one would order to a specific standard, like ASTM A 36, is to be assured of material that will meet stated minimum mechanical property requirements.
