ASTM A381 Y65 / ASME BPVC IX / ASME B31.3

Hi,

I have a question about the pipe material ASTM A381 Y65, this material is not into the section IX of ASME BPVC neither into ASME B31.3 table A-1. In ASME B31.3 table A-1 appear ASTM A381 from Y42 to Y60.

Someboby could help me to understand the reason why this material is excluded from ASME B31.3 and ASME IX?

IMO, it may be no need to include A387 Y65 material in the B31.3 or BPVC since it isn't popular for the process plant. The high strength material, such as API5L X-Grade or A387 Y-Grade, are mainly used for the B31.4 pipeline system. Basically, these high strength material is susceptible to welding problem and hydrogen embrittlement.
However, if needed, the "Unlisted Material" can be used for the process plant as if it meets the B31.3 requirements per Section 323.1.2.
