hi guys ,

re posted here as i think i posted in the wrong place so hope you can help.

i need to know the diffrances between astm a479 and astm a484 with refreance to 304 stainless steel?

i have searched the net and have found the scope of each spec, one being for boiler and pressure vessel use and the other for general use.

what i really need to know is the exact diffrance, is one stronger or has it had a tighter inspection?

i need this infomation to make the decition if it is possable to use astm a484 instead of useing a479. this is in the aerospace industry so i need to provide evdance of material properties.

any guideance would be very much apreacited.
best regards
ash

As you stated, a review of the scope is not proper for a detailed material specification comparison. To do this comparison correctly, I would strongly recommend you purchase a copy of each to review side by side. Even if I were to post a detailed response showing the differences, you would still need to verify this information.

By the way, ASTM A 484 is titled Standard Specification for
General Requirements for Stainless Steel Bars, Billets, and
Forgings
. This specification imposes requirements for purchase of bars, billets and forgings as referenced from another material specification. ASTM A 479 is an actual material specification for an application.
