Does anyone have experience with substituting ASTM A513 square tubing for ASTM A500? ASTM A500 is recognized in the AISC as well as AISI Cold-formed Steel Design manual, and is typically what is specified for structural applications. The issues that I am aware of are the low carbon content in the A513; therefore requiring the welders to be certified as well as the nominal dimensions are slightly different from A500 shapes. Additionally, I have assumed the yield strength to be FY=50 ksi as a conservative number rather than fy = 86 ksi. Has anyone had experience in using this as a structural element?
