ASTM A999 Secondary melting

Hi,

I'm from a steel pipe manufacturer in China.
And for Clause 3.2 in ASMT A999, I am confused in understanding, the description as below:

3.2 If secondary melting, such as electroslag remelting or vacuum remelting, is used, the heat shall be defined as all of the ingots remelted from a single primary heat.

I am confused about the first word Heat, dose it mean Heat No. of the ingots after remelting is same with the heat no. of the primary heat? or the new diferent heat nos shall be redefined for all of the ingots after remelting?

Yes, it says that you are allowed to combine all of the re-melt ingots under the same heat number.
Personally I don't like this.
Our internal specs prohibited this practice and required unique identification of each re-melt ingot.
So they are usually marked as HT XXXXXX-1, where XXXXXX is the original HT.
In some cases I have bought multiple coils of material where some was the EAF/AOD material and some was then ESRed, same base heat number but marked with a suffix. And separate tests required.
