ASTM B 425(UNS No. N8825)forging and ASTM B 564(UNS No. N8825) 1

I have found a specification requirement of ASTM B 425(UNS No. N 8825)forging for fittings and flanges but I have observed that this ASTM specification is for rod and bar not for forging whereas the ASTM B 564(UNS No. N 8825)is for forging.

Now I am informed that if any specification calls for ASTM B 425 ( UNS No. N 8825) and forging than both can not be complied it has to be either only ASTM B 425 ( UNS No. N 8825) or ASTM B 564(UNS N 8825.)and forging.

Can any body clarify about this? I am in extreem hurry to take decision regarding this for Incoloy piping fitting and flanges. Please help me out.

For pipe flanges and flanged fittings refer to ASME B16.5. In ASME B16.5, both ASTM B 424 and B 564 standard specifications are approved for use - B 424 is for plates and B 564 is for forgings. Either standard specification will work for Incoloy 825 material.

Thanks metengr, but whether ASTM B 425 can be forging ? if I say forging for Icoloy 825 piping fitting can it be other than ASTM B 564 ? Please clarify.

No. ASTM B425 is a standard specification for hot finished and cold drawn rod and bar products. You need to reference B424.

metengr thanks once again. Since ASTM B 424 is specification for plates if I want to have forged flange I have no other option than ASTM B 564. Am I correct.

Yes, this is correct. ASTM B424 deals with plate, strip and sheet that are either hot or cold rolled.
