ASTM B733 or MIL-C-26074

I have a steel part I want to plate made from 12L14 carbon steel. Medium wear and mild service.
Suppliers have varying standards listed on their websites, are there any reasons to use one of these standards over another?
I think I need Grade B Class 1, if I go 26074 or Class 1 Type 4 SC2 under B733

MIL-C-26074 is an obsolete spec, but some vendors may still work to it if required for a legacy application. The current superseding spec is AMSC26074D. I don't have a copy of the current AMS spec, but according to the older MIL-C-26074, class 1 grade B (.0005" thick) is suitable for your 12L14 steel basis material. Don't have a copy of ASTM B733, but from what I can tell looking at some plating vendor websites class 1 type 4 SC2 seems to be quite similar.

Unless you have contractual requirements dictating a particular process, I would recommend using the AMS spec if this is an aerospace application, and the ASTM spec if this is a commercial application. The only other consideration is which process your plating vendor is qualified for.

It does seem to be vendor driven, they will steer to what they are certified too. I think I'll go B733. Also, hasn't AMS-C-26074 now been superceded by AMS2404?
